U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday he would like to reach a deal with China to end an escalating trade war.

Trump commented at the open meeting. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said at the meeting that this will bring more certainty to trade policy as they reach an agreement with the country.

Trump said: “I really want to deal with China.”

Speaking about the potential of ongoing negotiations, he said: “I think we will do some good for both countries in the end.”

Trump also commented on the war in Ukraine, noting that progress is being made in ending the conflict. He added: “…We are progressing Russia-Ukraine wars cease.”

In addressing the financial aspects of its policies, Trump suggests that revenue generated from tariffs can be used to repay state debt. “The debt will be paid with the money from the tariffs,” he said.

In his speech on EU trade, Trump pointed out that he is considering using the EU as a barrier to unity when discussing tariffs. “Think of the EU as a block of tariffs,” he said.

Trump’s comments are a potential impact on international relations if he is going to return to the president.
