Moscow: A fire broke out at a military base east of Moscow on Tuesday, triggering a series of explosions. The local governor said four people were injured and about 450 people were evacuated from the area.
Vladimir Governor Alexander Avdeev wrote in a telegram that ammunition was on fire and shells exploded in a storage area at the Kirzhach area base in the region.
The Department of Defense earlier said the fire was caused by a violation of security requirements and caused the ammunition stored in the warehouse to explode.
A state of emergency was declared, and local authorities are working with the Ministry of Defense and emergency ministries to ensure the safety of the region. Three of them were treated in the hospital.
Avdiv said the base was evacuated with residents of at least seven nearby settlements.
Unverified videos posted earlier on the Telegram channel showed huge fireballs and thick smoke overwhelming the sky.
Telegram channel Baza, which is close to security services, said at least 10-11 explosions and firefighters from neighboring areas were called to contain the fire.
