Jaipur: The United States is seeking to sell more energy and defense equipment to India, Vice President JD Vance said on Tuesday that it visited the country, adding that the relationship between the two countries will shape the century.
“If India and the United States work together successfully, we will see a 21st century prosperity and peace,” he said in a speech in northwest of Jaipur, northwest of India.
“But I also believe that if we cannot successfully work together, the 21st century will be a very dark time for all humanity.”
After Monday’s dinner, he also repeatedly praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Vance, along with his wife, is a personal four-day visit to India, whose daughter and three children are Indian immigrants.
The trip comes after India is rushing to end the 90-day pause, ahead of the end of the 90-day pause announced by U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration, an early trade deal with the U.S., its largest trading partner.
“Prime Minister Modi is a tough negotiator. He has carried out a tough bargaining,” Vance said to the audience’s laugh.
India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in San Francisco on Monday that India wants to “actively end” the first part of the fall trade agreement.
Vance said he and Modi have made good progress in trade negotiations and confirmed that the two sides have completed reference clauses for the trade negotiations.
“This sets a roadmap for the last deal between our countries,” he said.
