Moscow: Iran believes that as long as Washington is realistic, it can reach an agreement with the United States.
“A deal can be reached if they show serious intentions and do not make unrealistic demands,” Araqchi said in a press conference in Moscow, following talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Alakchi said Iran pointed out the seriousness of the United States in the first round of negotiations held in Oman last week. The second round is scheduled to be held in Rome on Saturday.
U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to attack Iran if it disagrees with a deal with the U.S. on its nuclear program, which Iran says is peaceful, but the West says it aims to build an atomic bomb.
Lavrov said Russia is “ready to help, mediate and play any role that is beneficial to Iran and the United States.”
Moscow has played a role in Iran’s nuclear negotiations in the past, as a member of the UN Security Council with a veto and signed an early deal that Trump abandoned during his first term in 2018.
Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei sent Araqchi to Moscow to brief the Kremlin’s information on the negotiations to President Vladimir Putin.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said earlier Friday that the U.S. government is seeking a peaceful solution with Iran but will never tolerate countries that develop nuclear weapons.
