Washington: President Donald Trump has confirmed that the United States is holding talks with China on tariffs and expressed confidence that both sides can reach an agreement to end the ongoing trade dispute.

“Yes, we are talking to China,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “I would say they have reached out several times.”

Trump confirmed that negotiations have been held since Beijing responded to his “Liberation Day” global taxation, which has raised China’s tariffs to 145%.

But when asked whether he was talking directly with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump escaped, despite having deleted several tips before.

When asked about meeting with Xi Jinping, he said: “I never said whether they happened.” “It’s inappropriate.”

Whether Xi has contacted him amid pressure from reporters, he replied: “You think he is obvious, but we’ll talk about that soon.”

Trump’s administration is deeply rooted in the trade war between superpower rival China.

“I think we will make a very good deal with China,” he said earlier at the White House, with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visiting talks aimed at ending U.S. tariffs on the EU.
