Saudi Defense Minister Khalid Bin Salman arrived in Tehran on Thursday to meet with officials ahead of weekend talks with Iran on Iran’s nuclear program.

The Defense Minister posted information on Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz to Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Thursday, and state media reported that no more details were provided about the information.

Iran and the United States will hold a second round of talks in Rome this weekend on Tehran’s controversial uranium enrichment plan.

“Our belief is that the relationship between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Saudi Arabia is beneficial to both countries,” the Iranian state media said at the meeting. Khamenei expressed Tehran’s preparation for overcoming the barriers to ties with Riyadh.

Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed in a 2023 agreement that threatened the stability and security of the Gulf after years of hostility and helped create conflicts in the Middle East from Yemen to Syria.

Saudi Arabia welcomed Iran’s nuclear negotiations with the United States in a statement on Saturday at the country’s official news agency, saying it supports efforts to resolve regional and international disputes.

“Relations between Saudi Arabia and the Iranian armed forces have been improving since the Beijing agreement,” Iranian media said.
