President Donald Trump has warned Iran to abandon any pursuit of nuclear weapons or risk a potential military strike on its atomic infrastructure, i.e. Reuters Report.

Trump told reporters on Monday that Iran deliberately stagnated progress in nuclear negotiations with the United States. “I think they’re eavesdropping on us,” he said recently after a meeting in Oman between U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and senior Iranian officials.

Both sides described Saturday’s speech as “positive” and “constructive.” According to sources familiar with the plan, the upcoming second round of plans will be held in Rome on the upcoming weekend.

Negotiations are said to be exploratory in nature, with the focus of the discussion outlining a broad potential protocol framework. However, Trump made it clear that any agreement must ensure that Iran abandons all its nuclear weapons ambitions.

“Iran must get rid of the concept of nuclear weapons. They cannot have nuclear weapons,” he said.

Asked if the U.S. choice includes a military strike on a nuclear site in Tehran, Trump replied: “Of course.”

He added that Iran was “quite close to” building nuclear weapons and urged quick action to avoid serious consequences.

Indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran were under the leadership of former President Joe Biden, but little progress has been made.

The last formal agreement – the 2015 international nuclear agreement – was facilitated by President Barack Obama and later withdrawn during Trump’s first term.
