The country’s Commerce Ministry said on Tuesday that if the United States raises tariff measures, China will firmly take countermeasures to safeguard its rights and interests.

The comments were made by a spokesperson for the Commerce Department as the United States threatened to impose a 50% tariff on Chinese imports, the spokesman said China firmly opposed it.

The spokesman said the so-called “reciprocal tariffs” in the United States are groundless and are typical of unilateral bullying.

The spokesman pointed out that the countermeasures adopted by China are completely legal actions aimed at protecting its sovereignty, security and development interests and maintaining a normal international trade order.

The spokesman said the U.S. threat of escalating tariffs against China has exacerbated its mistakes and further exposed the nature of the blackmail that China will never accept.

“If the United States tends to go the wrong path, China will fight until the end,” the spokesperson pointed out.

The spokesman said China reiterated that the omnipotent winner of trade wars and trade protectionism.

The spokesman said China urged the United States to correct its illegal acts immediately, cancel all unilateral tariff measures against China, stop its economic and trade suppression, and correctly resolve the differences with China through equal dialogue on the basis of mutual respect.
