Beijing: China calls the planned new tariffs a serious mistake and warns that if Washington continues to impose 50% tariffs, it will respond with a firm countermeasure.

“In addition to one mistake, the U.S. threat to tariffs on China is a mistake, which once again exposes the nature of the U.S. ransomware,” a ministry spokesman said.

They added: “China will never accept it.”

“If the United States insists on acting in its own way, China will fight to the end,” a spokesperson warned.

“If the United States takes tariff measures, China will firmly take countermeasures to protect its own rights and interests,” they said.

Trump raised concerns about a global recession last week with tariffs on the global economy and sparked criticism from within his own Republican Party.

As the trade war escalates, Beijing, the major economic rival of Washington, announced its own 34% tariff on U.S. goods, effective Thursday.

China’s Ministry of Commerce also reiterated on Tuesday that it seeks “dialogue” with the United States and that “there is no winner in the trade war.”
