UN: Millions of people in 14 countries are at risk of hunger after the United States suddenly ceases to stop emergency food aid.
The World Food Programme (WFP) has already dropped 40% this year, and the program has been told the U.S. New Aid Agency has stopped 14 countries.
In the comments on X, the agency did not name these countries.
“If implemented, this could be the death penalty for millions of people facing extreme hunger and hunger,” the agency said.
WFP is not the only UN agency in the United States to be attacked by U.S. funding cuts, as U.S. led by U.S. President Donald Trump turns sharply inward and stops trying to help the rest of the world as part of the isolationist agenda.
The Trump administration told AFP on Monday that the agency was committed to promoting sexual and reproductive health, and the agency was ending two plans.
One of the plans is for Afghanistan, while the other involves Syria.
Countries other than the United States have also announced funding cuts in recent months, raising alarms from NGOs and international organizations.
The Trump administration has largely ruined the United States’ major humanitarian aid organization, the United States Agency for International Development. Its previous annual budget was $42.8 billion, which is 42% of all aid funds paid worldwide.
