President Donald Trump claimed on Sunday that China would agree to a sale agreement on Tiktok if it weren’t for the latest round of tariffs on Chinese imports, AFP Report.

Trump said on Air Force One: “The report is that we reached a deal, not a deal, but rather it was quite close, and then China changed the deal because of the tariffs. If I had reduced the tariffs, they would approve the deal in 15 minutes, which shows your tariff capabilities.”

Biden-era legislation has now been enforced under Trump’s re-appointment term, requiring Tiktok to contact China’s parent company, the barbarians, may face a nationwide ban. With more than 170 million users in the U.S., the app has become a central point in the ongoing technology and trade tensions between Washington and Beijing.

On Friday, Trump extended Tiktok’s deadline to eventually sell to non-Chinese buyers to 75 days – a day after tariffs on all Chinese imports increased by 34%.

Trump insists that the deal to ensure Tiktok’s future in the United States has ended and involves multiple investors, but he provides limited details. Bytedance confirmed it had held talks with U.S. authorities and sought a solution, but said there were still “critical matters” to be resolved. The company stressed that the agreement has not been implemented yet and that any transaction reached will still require “approval under Chinese law.”
