Al-Mawasi is one of the latest Israeli strike targeted by the region, which killed more than 50 people in Gaza on Saturday.
Al-Mawasi is a large evacuation area with almost no humanitarian facilities. Many people who fled the South, Rafa and Khan Yunis, were also squeezed into the Mavasi camp.
According to UNICEF, hospitals across Gaza are working to treat newborns and young children due to severe shortage of medical equipment.
“Humanitarian aid must be allowed to enter Gaza again,” it said in an article on X, adding that the ceasefire in Gaza must be restored. “The survival of children depends on it.”
“Tents in camps have been ongoing since the Israeli war resumed on March 18. Outdoor schools and other shelters are also targeted.
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) warned that the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip worsened, noting that nearly 2 million people (most of them displaced) currently have no source of income and rely solely on humanitarian aid to meet their basic food needs, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.
In a series of statements issued in the past few hours, WFP is increasingly at risk for hundreds of thousands of Gaza’s population. The plan expressed serious concerns about the sharp decline in food stocks, warning that the region is on the brink of a potential humanitarian disaster.
WFP stressed that this critical situation was more complicated by Israel’s ongoing closure of border crossings, which prevented the delivery of important food supplies to the surrounded enclaves. According to the agency, Gaza urgently needs an uninterrupted and continuous flow of food to avoid a complete collapse of food security in the region.
